Support for Transitioning from Oil Heating to Heat Pumps in Nova Scotia

The Government of Canada and the Province of Nova Scotia initiated Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program (OHPA) – a significant initiative aimed at reducing reliance on oil heating in favor of more sustainable and efficient electric heat pumps.

The OHPA Program is designed to ease the transition from oil-based heating systems to electric cold-climate heat pumps. Recognizing the economic barriers that might prevent low and median-income households from making this switch, the program offers substantial financial support. This initiative is part of broader efforts by federal and provincial governments to enhance energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and lower heating costs for Canadians.
